Professional of the Year
Joe Sansone received the ACA Professional of the Year Award. This honor is given annually to a professional whose work has had a significant impact on the lives of people with limb loss.
Sansone has shown strong support for the ACA by encouraging his patients at TMC Orthopedic in Houston, Texas, to seek peer visits and to become members of the ACA themselves. Recognizing the value of support, he personally donated funds to initiate the Amputees in Action support group. In further efforts to educate his patients, his office contains an amputee library with over 130 books, pamphlets, and videos about issues related to limb loss. Sansone has donated 100 books from the library to pediatric patients as well.
In addition, he founded Limbs of Love, a charitable organization that provides prostheses to amputees in financial need. In its first year of operation, Limbs of Love has helped six individuals obtain prostheses who would not otherwise have the means to afford them.
Sansone's advocacy work for amputees and others with disabilities in the Houston area has also included service on the mayor's committee on diversity in the workplace. He founded Airborne Amputees as well, an organization of amputee skydiving enthusiasts of all ages, many of whom had never considered skydiving before.
